“L’œil curieux” by Jérôme Savary

Based on the universe of George Orwell’s 1984, I designed a visual composition centered on the concept of total surveillance embodied by Big Brother.

The challenge was to translate an abstract idea—omnipresent surveillance—into an immediate and understandable visual language. I chose to represent Big Brother as a central eye, connected to binary code, symbolizing digital surveillance and behavioral analysis.

Cameras scattered throughout the scene capture individuals and send their data back to this central entity, reinforcing the idea of a global surveillance system.

Finally, the staging elements (framing of faces, barbed wire) symbolize the influence exerted by Big Brother on individuals’ actions and choices, as well as the loss of freedom to act without being observed. Dark colors such as grey and black were used to create a heavy, oppressive atmosphere.
